"Shrinking the Chasms" in the Age of Trump
"There are gates we can swing open, gaps we can bridge, and walls we can scale and tear down." —Adrian White
Beloved,
Today we welcome as a contributor to the FOCC the Rev. Adrian White, Associate Pastor of Youth and Young Adults at Highland Presbyterian Church in Louisville, Kentucky.
In a recent sermon entitled “Shrinking the Chasms,” Adrian said: “If we seek to believe and trust that Jesus has already wiped out the chasm between God’s realm and this one, as he unveils a reign of righteousness and love that will one day reconcile all peoples and all things, then, in the here and now, there are gates we can swing open, gaps we can bridge, and walls we can scale and tear down. . . . In a culture set up to divide and isolate us, this work is ongoing and essential. It starts with unlocking the gate and cracking it open, and letting love pour through.”
The text for the sermon is the parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus from Luke 16:19–31. The reading of scripture and the sermon begin at 24:55 in the video.
