"Living Outside the Lie"
Beloved,
As Christians seeking to be faithful to Jesus Christ and the gospel in the Age of Trump, we all need to reckon with various temptations to denial about two vastly different and conflicting realities:
(1) The world, comprised of Caesar’s politics, in which we are embedded.
(2) The Kingdom of God, comprised of God’s politics, into which Christ calls us.
Walter Brueggemann, in his typically prophetic way, summons us to discern the difference between the two, especially with respect to truth-telling.
Brueggemann’s clarity about the “the daily assault of denial” that the world of Caesar’s politics regularly inflicts upon us, remains in distinct contrast to “the truth of the God of the gospel” who lays claim upon us as disciples of Jesus Christ.
