Beloved,
The “sun” is eclipsed in darkness only for a time, as was the Son of God from Friday noon till Sunday morn.
Because we are God’s resurrection people, we see beyond the nightfall of dystopian kings, presidents, and princes.
For where they see not beyond their own deeds of darkness, we see the in-breaking and out-breaking of God’s light and love.
Therefore, they have no hold upon us in despair. For as surely as they shall fall, we shall rise—as Christ is risen from the dead.
In the spirit of the constant and certain hope that is our freedom in Christ’s Gospel, we turn now to the words of our beloved Walter Brueggemann, who for decades has held the Light of God before us through his profound teaching and interpretation of the scriptures Old and New. For me he has remained the most important biblical scholar and pastor-preacher of my generation.
I invite you to take his words to heart as he summons us to faithful discipleship.
