Dear Friends,
You and I stand at a crossroad in American history.
As Christians, we know that a “crossroad” may possess more than one meaning.
It can signify a common juncture at which you or I choose to proceed east or west rather than north or south, or conversely, on any given day.
It can also denote an uncommon juncture, a specific “crossroad,” such as the Appian Way of ancient imperial Rome, along the sides of which were crucified some 6,000 slaves and their leader Spartacus in 71 B.C.E., as a warning to others who might attempt a revolt against the mighty legions of Rome. That is to say, a road lined with crosses.
Either type of crossroad, common or uncommon, involves a decision. And that decision defines the direction human life takes along that road, be it for good or for ill.
So here we find ourselves—Christians and non-Christians alike—at a collective crossroad involving every citizen’s decision, the outcome of which has enormous repercussions.
Thus I invite you to consider for yourself a specific aspect of that road by listening for ten minutes to someone who is highly qualified to describe just what it would be like to travel that road, beginning in January 2025.
Timothy Snyder is the Levin Professor of History at Yale University.
When I listened to what he had to say, I personally reconfirmed a decision that I had already made as to what I prayerfully plan to do should we find ourselves traveling that road in 2025.
I wonder what you may prayerfully decide to do. For it’s not a decision to be taken lightly. Nor is it the kind of decision you are likely to have made ever before.
The clock is ticking.
Below is the link.
Grace and peace,
Charles Davidson
